Goalie Stick – Youth, Junior & Senior Goalie Sticks

Goalie sticks are made from composite/carbon or wood. Composite is lighter, stiffer, and reduces vibrations, while wood offers a more classic feel. Ice hockey sticks are designed to be stronger for fast pucks on ice, while inline hockey sticks are often lighter for indoor or outdoor surfaces. The choice depends on your playing style and durability needs.

The paddle length is measured from the heel contact point of the blade (on the playing surface) up to the beginning of the shaft/handle. Always test with skates on to simulate game position. In stance, the blade should lie flat on the ice and the blocker should slightly overlap the top of the pad. If the heel lifts → choose a longer paddle. If the toe lifts → choose a shorter paddle.

The table below provides an orientation. Paddle length remains in inches, body height is converted to cm. Your stance may require half a size difference.

Tip: Test several paddle lengths in full gear. The correct size gives you reach, a neutral stick arm, and a flat blade on the surface.

Left-catching goalies (catch glove left, stick right) use a left goalie stick. This is the standard choice for about 90% of players. Right-catching goalies (catch glove right, stick left) need a right goalie stick. Shops often use the terms “Regular” = Left and “Full Right” = Right.

Composite/carbon is lighter, stiffer, and more durable under high load. Wood offers more puck feel but wears faster. Check the blade, paddle edges, and shaft joint regularly to detect damage early.
